Use of cold work tool steels

Cold work steel is mainly used in the tool industry, where high hardness and wear resistance are essential. This steel is used for the production of cutting tools, cutting knives, dies, punches and other tools used for cutting, punching or forming materials such as metal, wood, plastic and paper.

The properties of cold work steel depend on its chemical composition. This steel usually contains high amounts of carbon, chromium, molybdenum and vanadium to improve its hardness and wear resistance. A special heat treatment process, such as hardening and tempering, further strengthens the steel and gives it its final properties.

Solution-oriented

We offer comprehensive support ranging from consulting to product development in order to create ideal conditions for toolmakers and industrial users.

Our materials

Our range of materials extends from unalloyed shell hardeners to high-alloy maraging cold work steels. Our tailor-made steels are characterized by wear resistance, compressive strength and toughness for every application.

Processing

In addition to the selection from our diverse delivery and stock program, you often have the option of receiving the tool machined or even as a ready-to-install solution.

Advantages of cold work steels

The use of cold-work tool steel offers several advantages. Due to its high hardness and wear resistance, tools made from cold work steel retain their sharpness for longer and have a longer service life compared to tools made from other materials. In addition, cold-work tool steel enables precise machining and clean cutting of materials, which is very important in many applications. Due to its hardness, it is more difficult to machine and requires special tools and machines.

Overall, cold work tool steel is an important material in the tool industry, enabling a wide range of applications due to its high hardness and wear resistance. With its ability to cut precisely and have a long service life, cold work steel is indispensable for many companies and industries.
