Precipitation-hardening ferritic-perlitic steels

Ferritic-pearlitic (FP) and advanced ferritic-pearlitic (AFP) steels are characterized by a combination of high strength and good ductility and are therefore suitable for applications where both strength and formability are important.

Optimized microstructure and improved mechanical properties

The microstructure of AFP steel usually consists of a mixture of ferrite and pearlite, similar to conventional ferritic-pearlitic steels. However, AFP steels are produced using advanced processing techniques such as controlled rolling and accelerated cooling, which help to refine the microstructure and improve the mechanical properties.

Top700

High-strength reinforcing steel for slender structures and cost-effective construction

The high-strength micro-alloyed reinforcing steel enables greater flexibility and stability for the most demanding requirements, developed by Steeltec in Switzerland.

With a yield strength of more than >700 N/mm2, the special steel Top700 is ideally suited for

  • earthquake-proof applications
  • highly reinforced components
  • precast concrete components
  • columns
  • warehouses

Increasing strength and reducing steel quantities

Top700 solves several challenges that other reinforcing steels cannot. Thanks to its higher yield strength of >700N/mm2, Top700 overcomes technical constraints, such as space problems with the reinforcement or aesthetic challenges, such as reducing the concrete cross-section. And it also offers economic advantages, as up to 40% less steel is required due to the higher strength, which leads to cost savings in several areas: lower quantity, less processing effort, less transportation. The latter is also a welcome factor from an environmental point of view.

Top700 compared to conventional B500B

High-strength Top700 means less reinforcement

This opens up new possibilities for architectural design: slimmer construction with better use of space and less weight. The amount of work in prefabrication and on the construction site is reduced as less steel is required. The standard values for the maximum reinforcement ratio in highly reinforced components are easier to comply with. Reinforced concrete construction with Top700 does not require any special properties from the concrete.

New EU steel safeguard measures change framework conditions for Steeltec

The European Union (EU) has adopted new steel safeguard measures that will enter into force on July 1, 2026. Duty-free import volumes into the EU will be reduced by 47% from 34.5 million tons to 18.3 mil-lion tons. Imports exceeding these quotas will be subject to a tariff of 50%, up from the previous rate of 25%. The measures apply to steel producers from third countries, including Switzerland, exporting products into the European Union. Steeltec AG, based in Emmenbrücke and part of Swiss Steel Group, is among the companies affected by the new regime.

Firmly anchored in the rock - Swiss Steel Group’s Top12 anchors secure a new section of road high above Lake Lucerne

100 years – that is the lifetime expected for the new section of the K2b cantonal highway between Vitznau and Gersau following its renovation and modernization. This is made possible in no small part by the Top12 special stainless steel from the Swiss Steel Group, from which the anchors for the retaining wall structure and support elements are manufactured. Over a hundred of these were drilled several meters deep into the steep rock face. They secure the walls and beams that support the new, 350-meter-long section of road. The structure is spectacular not only from a geotechnical perspective but also for everyone who drives over it and enjoys a breathtaking view of Lake Lucerne below.
