Wire for additive manufacturing

Our expertise ranges from the production of high-quality steel to the provision of welding filler wire that can be used flexibly. We supply top quality in the form of drawn wire, specially designed for the production of sophisticated aerospace components using WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) technology.

Process monitoring

From liquid metal to filler wire - with our Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing (WAAM), Wire Laser Additive Manufacturing (WLAM) and Electron Beam Additive Manufacturing (EBAM) processing methods, we have complete process control.

Productivity

The promising WAAM technology has a higher productivity than other processes (SLM, EBM) with up to 5kg per hour. There are synergies between welding sources and multi-axis robots to increase the uptime of machines in workshops.

Product portfolio

UGIWAM offers a wide range of products, including austenitic, ferritic and martensitic wire as well as duplex wire and nickel-based wire. We have the solution for your product requirements.

Drawn wire for additive manufacturing

With the new UGIWAM® product range, we guarantee complete control over the process. From steel production to filler wire that can be remelted if necessary, we supply the highest quality drawn wire for demanding aerospace components, all of which are intended for WAAM (Wire Arc Additive Manufacturing) technology.

Thanks to our two drawn wire production sites in Bourg-en-Bresse (France) and San Vendemiano (Italy), the Swiss Steel Group has the resources and technical expertise of a major leading group in stainless steels and nickel alloys for the welding market. The research and development centre is a major player in the field of innovation. Contact us and together we will find a solution that meets your requirements.

High-quality services for your needs

The welding operations carried out in the WAAM process are particularly long and often take place in complex positions. Based on our experience with armouring wires, we believe that the wire must be perfectly cleaned and lubricated in a very homogeneous way, depending on the welding process used for the application of the wire.

Swiss Steel has implemented the UGINET and UGIGLISS systems in its drawing lines, which allow us to control the cleaning of the wire and the lubrication for additive manufacturing.

Product portfolio for every application

We share our enthusiasm for convincing and successful products with our customers and partners.

New EU steel safeguard measures change framework conditions for Steeltec

The European Union (EU) has adopted new steel safeguard measures that will enter into force on July 1, 2026. Duty-free import volumes into the EU will be reduced by 47% from 34.5 million tons to 18.3 mil-lion tons. Imports exceeding these quotas will be subject to a tariff of 50%, up from the previous rate of 25%. The measures apply to steel producers from third countries, including Switzerland, exporting products into the European Union. Steeltec AG, based in Emmenbrücke and part of Swiss Steel Group, is among the companies affected by the new regime.

Firmly anchored in the rock - Swiss Steel Group’s Top12 anchors secure a new section of road high above Lake Lucerne

100 years – that is the lifetime expected for the new section of the K2b cantonal highway between Vitznau and Gersau following its renovation and modernization. This is made possible in no small part by the Top12 special stainless steel from the Swiss Steel Group, from which the anchors for the retaining wall structure and support elements are manufactured. Over a hundred of these were drilled several meters deep into the steep rock face. They secure the walls and beams that support the new, 350-meter-long section of road. The structure is spectacular not only from a geotechnical perspective but also for everyone who drives over it and enjoys a breathtaking view of Lake Lucerne below.
