Steels for Additive Manufacturing

Additive manufacturing is on the rise, and high-quality metal powders are crucial in this process. In addition to a broad portfolio of Printdur, we also offer our customers the opportunity to collaboratively develop tailor-made materials. This can include traditional powder steel grades as well as bainitic steels or martensitic tool steels.

3D Printing

In recent years, 3D printing has had a groundbreaking impact on the industry. This innovative technology enables the creation of three-dimensional objects layer by layer from various materials, bringing profound changes in many sectors.

3D printing with metal powder is revolutionizing manufacturing processes by enabling design flexibility, efficiency improvements, and customized solutions. It allows the production of steel components with complex, precise geometries that would be difficult or impossible to achieve with traditional manufacturing methods. Individual replacement parts for existing equipment and machinery can also be produced in this way. This technology also enables the optimization of components to save material and reduce weight, which is particularly beneficial in aerospace. Companies can create their prototypes faster and more cost-effectively, significantly accelerating product development. Additionally, 3D printing can help improve material and energy efficiency through precise dosing of the material and avoiding waste.

Climate-neutral steel production

With our Green Steel, we are taking a significant step towards climate-neutral steel production. Steel scrap serves as the main raw material, and in the electric steelmaking process, the steel is produced using energy sources with low CO2 content. This leads to a CO2 footprint significantly below the industry average.

Rapid Prototyping

We involve you in the prototyping process and develop the complete manufacturing process with you – from your own alloy idea to the final product. We support you in the following areas:

  • Definition of requirements
  • Material development
  • Powder atomization: from small quantities to large volumes
  • Testing and optimization of materials in the latest AM facilities
  • Support in powder recycling

As a result of the manufacturing process, you receive a ready-to-use powder steel that can be processed in your own 3D printer using the powder bed method (Selective Laser Melting). This applies to both small quantities for 3D printing of spare parts and large quantities on a tonnage scale.
