Comprehensive Product Portfolio for Harsh Conditions

The world's conventional oil reserves are increasingly depleting. As a result, oil and gas companies are focusing more on deep-sea explorations and overcoming technical challenges in developing unconventional liquid sources such as oil sands, heavy, and extra-heavy oil.

In light of these new challenges, the selection of materials is crucial. Swiss Steel Group, a global leader in the production of stainless long products, offers tailor-made solutions to meet the highest technical requirements. Our extensive portfolio of steel grades for oil and gas exploration includes low and high alloyed construction steels, ferritic, martensitic, high-alloy austenitic, and duplex stainless steels, as well as non-magnetic steels.

In addition to our wide range of products, we offer various certifications (ISO 9001, TÜV PED 97/23/CE, TÜV W0/TRD 100, Norsok MDS D47) to meet the high demands of our customers in this market.

Magnadur®

Our Magnadur® special materials are used where the most sensitive electronics for exploration are employed. Our Magnadur® are highly pure, non-magnetic steels that exhibit excellent mechanical properties through targeted thermomechanical processing and demonstrate good resistance in corrosive media as required. Their main feature, the minimal amounts of residual magnetism, is tested in special facilities up to delivery. This ensures that even the smallest 'hot spots' are detected and removed across the entire length of the bar.

Transport and processing of the bars can also create hot spots through contact with magnetic materials. Swiss Steel Group has drilling machines that deliver bars with a continuous central bore, which does not require further processing. All dimensions and tolerances of the drilled bars comply with API standards.

Corrodur 4418mod

Our strong brand, Corrodur 4418mod, offers excellent properties in terms of strength, toughness, and outstanding resistance to pitting and stress corrosion cracking, making it particularly suitable for so-called 'completion tools.' This steel has been specifically developed for use in offshore oil exploration and is qualified according to NACE MR0175 Annex B2.3 and NORSOK M-650.

Jomasco® DB

Jomasco® DB steel grade, developed by Swiss Steel Group for use in drill bits. Thanks to its chemical composition (Ni-free grade), this steel has a low CO2 footprint and is a cost-effective solution compared to the classic AISI grades 4718, 4815, 4720, and 9313.

Mining

We offer customized products and precisely the solutions for mining that withstand continuous loads as well as extreme short-term loads. While we work together with our customers to ensure long service life and special properties in terms of wear and fatigue resistance, we always keep an eye on cost-effectiveness and safety.

Safety is paramount in mining. Production facilities must operate without disruptions and failures of systems and components, ensuring their continuous operation. Failures pose a significant safety risk, and any interruption results in high costs. Our high-performance steels are reliable even thousands of meters below the ground, providing the performance our customers can rely on.
