Punching and cutting tools: The right choice of material
Punching tools essentially consist of a punch and a die. Knives, shears and saws are used for cutting. Regardless of which tool is used, the choice of the optimum material plays a decisive role. Properties such as high hardness, compressive strength, toughness and wear resistance are of great importance.
In the Swiss Steel Group's extensive product range, you will find a variety of materials that can be optimally used depending on the application. Here we present some of these high-performance steels:
Cryodur® 2379 - Precision for fineblanking tools
Cryodur® 2379 is a ledeburitic 12% chromium steel with a remarkable wear resistance and toughness ratio. This steel is characterized by a higher through-hardenability, especially during vacuum heat treatment. This makes it ideal for fineblanking tools where maximum precision and high wear resistance are required.
Cryodur® 2516 - Maximum dimensional accuracy and wear resistance
Cryodur® 2516 is a special steel that impresses with its exceptional dimensional stability and outstanding edge-holding properties. This steel is particularly suitable for high-performance cutting in thin sheet and strip steel processing, especially when cutting material thicknesses of up to approx. 3 mm.
Cryodur® 2550 - Versatile high-performance cutting steel
Cryodur® 2550 is an oil-hardening, impact-resistant steel with a tungsten alloy. It combines high toughness with high hardness. This steel is often used for cutting medium sheet thicknesses as it offers an excellent combination of strength and toughness.
Cryodur® 2990 - hardness, strength and tool life
Cryodur® 2990 is characterised by its exceptional hardness, strength and adhesive wear resistance. Compared to Cryodur® 2379, it has improved toughness, which increases the fracture resistance and thus the service life of the tools. This steel is ideal for circular knives, roller shear blades, punches, dies and progressive cutting tools.
Rapidur® 3343 - versatility and performance
Rapidur® 3343 is a versatile standard high-speed steel. Thanks to its balanced alloy structure, it offers high toughness, wear resistance and good cutting properties. This steel is an excellent choice for a wide range of applications where high performance is required.
