Plastic Extrusion

For the plasticizing, transporting, and compressing of molten plastic, extrusion tools are essential. We offer a coordinated range for various components of extrusion equipment, including cylinders, screws, screw tips, check valves, and other parts.

Customised

We offer customised steel solutions for various extrusion lines, including barrels, screws, screw tips, backstops and other parts to meet specific requirements.

High-performance steels

In addition to the steels usually supplied in the quenched and tempered condition, such as Formadur® 2891, we develop high-performance steels that fulfil special requirements in terms of wear resistance, toughness and torsional strength.

Durability

Selecting the right materials is crucial, as it not only increases productivity, but also ensures the durability of tools and end products.

High-performance steel for plastic extrusion tools

In addition to the steel typically supplied in the quenched state for normal applications, such as Formadur® 2891, we also produce special high-performance steels that meet specific requirements. These specific requirements include the highest wear resistance with good toughness and torsional strength, which characterize the steel grades listed below.

Cryodur® 2990 is a newly developed ledeburitic cold work steel with high hardness, good toughness, and high tempering resistance, along with very high wear resistance. Its high compressive strength and resistance to abrasive and adhesive wear make this special steel an ideal choice for use in lock strips and plastic molds.

Formadur® 2891 is an aluminum-alloyed nitriding steel for extruders. It is used as a plasticizing tool for screw cylinders and extruder screws.

Thermodur® 2343 EFS and Thermodur® 2343 EFS Superclean are the first choice when extreme torsional strength and toughness are required. For example, surface-treated screws made from this high-performance steel are optimally suited even for the most challenging applications.

Expert consulting for customised solutions

Plastic extrusion is a versatile process for manufacturing plastic products based on melting and shaping plastic materials. By pressing the molten plastic through nozzles or extrusion heads, products of various shapes, sizes, and profiles are created. This versatile process requires precise tools and components to control the melting and shaping process and produce high-quality end products.

Plastic extrusion employs a range of tools and components to achieve optimal results. Extruders, hoppers, nozzles or extrusion heads, calibration tools, as well as drawing and cutting devices are essential to control the melting and shaping process of plastic. Innovative materials play a crucial role in maximizing efficiency and quality.

The Swiss Steel Group not only provides top-notch materials but also offers expert advice. Our specialists assist companies in selecting the optimal materials to optimize plastic extrusion. The right choice of materials not only contributes to increased productivity but also ensures the durability of tools and end products.
